Our Story

We are a catalytic converter for cooperation

We believe that the transition to a sustainable society can only succeed when knowledge, practice, and education truly reinforce each other. Yet, educational institutions, researchers, businesses, and civil society organizations still too often work within their own domains. As a result, knowledge, talent, and innovation remain untapped, and necessary changes are delayed. We are here to bridge the gap between worlds that need each other but do not always know how to find each other.

How do we do that?

AGC is a catalyst for collaboration between knowledge institutions, governments, entrepreneurs, and talent. By investing in the relationship with our societal partners, knowledge questions are gathered, knowledge sharing is established, and ideas are developed. We do this by facilitating community building, project valorization, knowledge sharing, and events, and by assisting with the analysis and definition of complex issues.

Themes

With Amsterdam Green Campus, we drive various projects in the Northwest Netherlands, often in collaboration with knowledge institutions, government bodies, and entrepreneurs. Our projects contribute to one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals and focus on one of the following three global themes:

Agrifood encompasses everything related to food, from soil to fork. Consider challenges such as the protein transition, circularity, and the sustainability and digitalization of the sector. Amsterdam Green Campus drives this transition by examining demand from the field, leveraging its network, and bringing parties together.

Sustainable and nature-inclusive area development offers opportunities to address challenges such as biodiversity loss, circularity, and climate adaptation in a targeted manner. A green city contributes to the health and well-being of its inhabitants, because people and the living environment work together.

In a rapidly changing society, it is important that people continue to develop. By establishing new forms of education, such as learning communities, we create opportunities to accelerate the sustainability transition. Furthermore, we advocate for strengthening the connection between secondary vocational education (MBO), higher professional education (HBO), and university education (WO) to realize targeted impact in practice.

Board and partners

Amsterdam Green Campus (AGC) is a non-profit foundation of the University of Amsterdam, with the mission to accelerate the transition to a sustainable living environment through collaboration. 

Our partners in the board are Vonk, Yuverta, AERES University of Applied Sciences, Inholland, UvA/IBED (Institute for Biodiversity & Ecosystem Dynamics), UvA/HIMS (Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences) and UvA/SILS (Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences).

The board consists of Michel Haring (Chairman of the Board, UvA), Guy Heemskerk (Vonk), Kees Bakker (Yuverta), Peter Scheffer (Inholland), Martine van Tilburg (AERES) and Peter van der Donk (UvA/FNWI).
