Research into the agricultural sector in Hollands Kroon

2020

Project description

Problem

The municipality of Hollands Kroon is part of Greenport Noord-Holland Noord; a status given to an area where the entire agribusiness cluster is present with a national spatial-economic importance. In addition, Anna Paulowna is part of the largest contiguous bulb production area (Northern Sand Area) in the world. This municipality is therefore characterized by long-term agricultural developments and agricultural entrepreneurship. Within the context of agricultural entrepreneurship, new opportunities and threats are constantly emerging. It is important to understand in 2020 what challenges the sector is facing and what the parties involved, including the municipality, can expect from each other in order to work together on a future-proof, healthy agricultural sector in 2029.

This report was written with the aim of understanding the current value and social importance of the agricultural sector in Hollands Kroon and what is needed here to maintain a healthy agricultural position for the future. In this report, the agricultural sector refers to the grower and (dairy) farmer (the primary, mostly large-scale producers and largest users of space).

The central questions on the table can be formulated as follows:

  • What does the agricultural sector need to be future-proof?
  • How much space (in hectares) is required for this?
  • What role does the agricultural sector play in society in Hollands Kroon?
