Center for Bioassays (C4B)

Center for Bioassays (C4B)

Project description

A group of eleven companies from the ornamental plant sector have united around the theme of disease resistance in the Centre for Biotesting (C4B) to realise the necessary innovations. Initiating this pre-competitive and structural collaboration is an important goal of this project. This collaboration is aimed at developing reliable, objective biotests for the most important diseases and pests for a wide range of crops. An important innovation in this project is the establishment of a central collection of reference pathogens and plant varieties that are essential for reliable biotests. In order to safeguard the use of biotests for the sector in the long term, a knowledge sharing programme will be developed in this project that will train the partners in the project and support them in the long-term implementation of the knowledge from this project in their breeding programmes.

Problem

Varieties must have the genetic potential to defend themselves against diseases and pests, so that fewer chemical agents need to be used. Emissions of pollutants to groundwater and surface water must be reduced. This creates a healthier living and working environment.
